Securing Institutions

De Grubbe is a community institution for youngsters who have committed, or are suspected of having committed, a crime at the age of 14 to 20 years old. Within five days after placement in De Grubbe, the youngster appears before the juvenile court again. The judge can extend the stay by one month. During this period, a report is drawn up. In this report, the multidisciplinary team formulates an advice concerning the further guidance of the juvenile.

Juvenile Security

De Grubbe is a closed juvenile detention center. The juveniles are not allowed to move around freely: they cannot open doors themselves and are always accompanied when they are out of their room. They cannot leave the detention center at any time, except with the permission of the court. School, work and hobbies outside the institution are therefore not continued during the placement. The youngsters therefore spend a lot of time behind closed doors during the first few days; and at this moment they often have difficulty accepting their new situation. It is certainly no exception that some juveniles lose their temper and become violent against things that hinder their freedom, such as a door.

Fail-Safe Locks

Although the doors of such an institution are severely attacked on a regular basis, they differ considerably from a prison- or police cell door. They have a different appearance and different characteristics. For example, it is required that the doors turn outward and are based on the fail-safe principle. Door handles are considered dangerous and are not permitted. Creating a solution, which combines these requirements with a homely look and feel as well as a high security level is quite a challenge. With our A1 fail-safe locks, we are able to offer an exceptional security lock solution. However, we have to work very closely with our partners and combine our R&D in order to optimize specific door concepts. Minimizing deformation and creating adjustment possibilities are important characteristics for durable solutions in this market.
